Qatar, like any other country, has its own culture, sensibilities and criminal activity. Tourists and travellers should strive to keep themselves safe from harm. Here are a few things that tourists and travellers should know before heading out to the country.

1. Driving
In Qatar’s highways from Ras Laffan to Doha, it is important that drivers approach a speed of 120KPH at maximum. However, be careful as some drivers overtake the speed limit to 150KPH. Always stay at the right side of the road to avoid the faster vehicles and potential collision. Qatar also has strict traffic laws and any violation even from a foreigner does not grant a fine slip, but a deportation.

2. Culture
Qatar has a culture based on the Islamic Law and the Sharia and this prevents crime and promotes good culture among its citizens. It is important that female tourists dress accordingly and conservatively if they are away from the beach. Also, pork is not allowed in the country. While there are no public transportations to get to and fro from places, taxis have very low fare rates.

3. Clothing
As more emphasis is put on culture, clothing is an important aspect in Qatar. Stemming from culture, females who do not dress conservatively in Qatar violate the law. As a foreigner, the locals can consider this a disrespect of their culture, especially during the holy months of the Islamic relgion.
